Planning spares before drydock: a simple timeline

Late requisitions are the most expensive part of many drydockings.

Drydock dates are usually known months in advance. Spare parts orders often are not placed until the last few weeks, which is when lead times, air freight and urgent surcharges start to dominate the bill.

A workable timeline

  • 12 weeks before: compile the overhaul scope and running hours, and list long-lead items such as liners, pistons, turbocharger parts and pump casings.
  • 10 weeks: send RFQs with part numbers, drawing references and serial numbers.
  • 8 weeks: compare genuine, OEM and alternative options and place orders for long-lead items.
  • 4 weeks: order the remaining consumables and gaskets, and agree the consolidation point and delivery port.
  • 2 weeks: confirm documents with the yard and the agent.

We can quote a complete drydock list at once and consolidate it for delivery to the yard or the vessel.
