Market brief, April 2026

Turbocharger kits and fuel injection parts stay tight, and European list prices run well above Asian equivalents.

Price trends

  • The global ship spares market is growing steadily, with a projected CAGR of 4.4% through 2035, and OEM part prices continue to climb. Turbocharger kits and fuel injection components remain the tightest categories, with European OEM list prices running 15 to 25% above Asian-sourced equivalents of comparable specification.
  • Dynamic and value-based pricing is becoming the norm among major distributors. Expect less predictability on repeat orders, and lock in pricing early if you have drydockings planned for the second half of 2026.
  • 3D-printed replacement parts are gaining traction for obsolete or long-lead components, particularly for older MAN and Wärtsilä engine models, which is starting to pull down aftermarket prices in some categories.

Supply chain

  • Panama Canal transit restrictions persist because of low watershed levels, with no major recovery expected before mid to late 2026. Vessels rerouting via Suez or the Cape face longer voyages, higher consumable burn and more frequent maintenance.
  • Port congestion in North Europe has intensified as more traffic shifts to Suez routing. Port Klang and Singapore also see episodic delays from weather and volume surges.
  • If your vessel trades Asia to Europe, add 5 to 7 days to parts delivery planning for European port pickups.

Regional spotlight: Europe

FuelEU Maritime is in its first full compliance cycle, and non-compliant vessels face penalties of EUR 400 per tonne of fuel oil equivalent. Retrofits such as air lubrication, propeller optimisation and waste heat recovery can pay back in under two years. European OEMs are prioritising green-tech production, which stretches lead times on conventional engine spares, so plan orders for MAN Energy Solutions or Wärtsilä parts well ahead of maintenance windows.

What to watch

  • FuelEU Maritime penalties apply from 30 June 2026 for non-compliant vessels trading in EU waters.
  • SOLAS amendments in force since January 2026 require electronic inclinometers on new containerships and bulk carriers of 3,000 GT and above, and ban PFOS-containing fire extinguishing media. Check your safety equipment inventory for gaps.
