MAN B&W L23/30H: an auxiliary engine overhaul list

The four-stroke workhorse behind countless generators, and what a unit overhaul needs.

The MAN B&W L23/30H, built under licence by several engine makers, is one of the most widespread auxiliary engines in the merchant fleet. Its parts are well known, which makes it tempting to order from memory.

A unit overhaul usually calls for

  • Piston rings and oil scraper ring
  • Connecting rod big end and small end bearings
  • Cylinder liner sealing rings and the flame ring
  • Cylinder head gasket, valve seats and valves
  • Fuel injection valve nozzle and fuel pump element
  • Bolts and nuts that are single-use according to the manual

Check who built the engine. Licence-built L23/30H engines can use different part numbers for the same function, and some later engines include modifications that change ring packs or bearings.

Send the engine number and builder with your list and we will cross-check before quoting.
